"We've evolved from doing whole pies to these mini tarts," said Mathers, who still sold whole, packaged pies for preorder before Independence Day Weekend. "I've been saying they're Covid-friendly because they're something I don't have to touch a lot, or cut a lot."

Seasonal fruit tarts ($2, three for $5) aren't overly sweet, which helps highlight the fruits' subtle flavors. Blueberry lemon, cherry vanilla, strawberry butter and apple cinnamon swirl were the four options available at her first pop-up, with apple cinnamon expected to be a year-round staple. BBQ jackfruit vegan tarts and tart-sized Southwestern quiches represent savory options, which will also rotate in flavor.
Foibles will sell Tipico Coffee and eventually add beer and wine. The inside of the small West Side shop is bathed in natural light and creates a colorful, welcoming environment. Maximum capacity is between 20-25 inside (when permitted), with roughly 10 seats available outdoors.

The shores of Lake Erie are awash with bars, beaches and a few restaurants as the lake makes its southwesterly bend. But coffee shops with a waterfront view? There are none, to our knowledge.
That is expected to change in 2021 when Springville-based 49 Coffee House & Eatery opens a second location as part of a multi-use plan at 4900 Lake Shore Road, Hamburg. The sprawling complex will have one address but harbor three businesses: Convergence Coworking, a membership-based space for freelance workers in several fields; the incumbent Shannon June Salon, which has operated there for the last five years; and the coffee shop, which will service Convergence's members and be open to the public.
